Cottage Cutie

This is one of the pieces Kenny brought home
from his solo day out shopping...

It had some issues,
including this ugly repair on the door

While I was scheming about what color to paint it,
I was informed by my dear husband that he was painting it
and it was going to be green...
so green it is!

So he mixed up green milk paint
and got busy...

Because this piece was solid wood,
and most of the original stain had worn away
he didn't need to sand it, or add bonding agent...
just paint mixed with water

The above photo is after two coats
but before waxing and distressing

hand distressing looks so much more authentic
than anything you can accomplish
with a mechanical sander, in my opinion!

four coats of Good Ol Brown Wax
helped richen the color
and protect the finish...
now it's smooth as silk

is a lighter shade of brown
and definitely not as scary
as some of the darker, deeper waxes!

The hardware is original, and is pretty amazing!

This turned out darling...
we added new casters
and I can visualize this piece
loaded up with holiday yummies
being wheeled around the dining room
before finding it's resting spot
right next to the kids table!

You can find this piece in our Etsy shop!

  3. So so beautiful, a wonderful piece and a great paint job. A husband who wants to paint furniture....I still want your husband when you are done with him. Ha ha!

Serious question: You are selling furniture on ESTY. Does something as heavy as furniture actually sell on ESTY? Or it ESTY just a vehicle to store, look up and peruse your pieces?

    1. Hi Donna,

thank you! We sell 80% of our pieces on Etsy, so yes, heavy furniture certainly sells! I opened our shop over a year ago, hoping to just promote our local business. Boy, was I surprised! I will say, though, with the introduction of chalk paint, lots and lots (and lots!) of people have started selling painted furniture on Etsy, so the market there is pretty saturated. We're investigating other options right now :0)

  5. Haven't tried this color green from them yet! It's gorgeous. I too am a Milk Paint Co fan. Have ton quite a few pieces. The cobalt (they call it Marine Blue) is my fave!
BTW, thx for the inspiration and details about the stencil, on the cherry blossom piece you did.
I did one of my own on a dresser. (I tried to link it for you but it didn't work. go to "Gallery". Should be at the top.
Please stop by for a look and let me know what you think. Thanks again! Beth

  10. wow, you guys have done it again. Just fabulous. My husband helps with repairs and carpentry but he doesn't paint the furniture. I think I might go a little nuts if he wanted to. Don't know why!
