Junkin'

The three photos above
are of an antique railing
pulled from the courthouse in
Ellijay, GA
I wanted it.
I REALLY wanted it.
My sweet husband offered
to strap it on top of the car.
I think it would be great
to separate rooms in an open floor plan
OR
maybe...I could use it at the store
to separate our space from our neighbors...

We leave tomorrow.
If you see an Expedition
driving down the interstate
with an 8 1/2 ft railing
on top
well, I guess you know...

We also found this great chest...
not my color choice but fabulous
just the same

I had this off the wall and in my hands
but decided I was being silly
It was expensive
and I already have one
Still kinda wish I bought it, though!

At $200, this was no bargain
but isn't it fabulous?
It's a bit more blue in person

I really loved this old chippy fireplace surround
the colors were great
but alas, no way to safely get it home...

We were very surprised to find that the best picking
really is in Florida

The prices everywhere we went were
higher
than our retail
after repairs and paint!

Adventures

(yes, it's a wooden coffin)

Stiltskin Studios is on an ADVENTURE...
OK, so it's really just a vacation...

We're up near Blue Ridge, GA
and found this wonderful
(and way over-priced!)
junk shop

There were many, many things I wanted to take home

I did buy just a few things
and we're hoping to find more
fabulous things to bring home

Tell me YOU wouldn't slam on the brakes
and throw it in REVERSE
if you spied this on the roadside??

A New Home...

We refinished this piece about a month ago...

We were undecided about adding a lighter accent
on the raised areas...
so we painted the whole piece pale grey
with a light glaze

It felt like every piece we did was a color
with white on the carvings...

The pieces sold, and I offered
to highlight the raised areas

And as I finished, I realized
there is a VERY good reason
I use this color scheme
so often...

It simply works.
Every time.
It always looks great.

I'm thrilled with the outcome
and pleased the client allowed me
to add the white...

She loved it, as well...
and it fits in fabulously with
the rest of her AMAZING items
(I am talking drool-worthy!)

Did I mention her house is a
darling Bungalow??

Gorgeous!

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice...

...that's what little girls are made of...

This set was custom ordered by
a client in Texas

Her daughter is due
very soon

This set is heading
out of Florida
tonight
bet mom
will be relieved
once
it's in place!

We custom mixed
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint
to match
Benjamin Moore's "Cool Lava"
color palate

The night table will have
a sweet basket in the cubby

We stripped the tops,
and moderately distressed the body
before applying an antique glaze

I can't wait to see this room completed!

Lullabye and Goodnight

This sweet little side table
is for a yet-to-arrive
little girl...
the first in a house of boys

It coordinates with a long dresser
(that I've yet to photograph
because it is h.e.a.v.y!)

Such a lucky little lady
Mom picked out Bella Notte bedding
and lovely shades of pink and white
throughout the room...

I believe there will even be a
crystal chandelier
to go with the lamp pictured

We custom mixed this pink
to match Cool Lava from Benjamin Moore
It turned out so right...
the distressing
and wood top
knocks the sweet factor down
but just a little!

Can't wait to see this room
as well as the
princess
who will slumber there

Pink Peonies...

I decided to paint the Empress Dresser...
it has great lines
with very little detail
EXACTLY what I wanted
for this vibrant color

Mixing up an elegant Hot Pink
took a bit more effort
than one might think...
A drop of white to red, right?
Sure, if you want bubble gum...
I wanted
richness,
depth,
sophistication...

You get the idea!

This old girl had been separated from her mirror
long before I acquired her
She needed a new one, don't you agree?
It's also solid wood
and very old

I think they are perfect together...
the ornate mirror
plays off
the simple curves of the dresser

I can visualize this in so many areas
of a home

Imagine this in an entry way
or as a side table in your boudoir...

In case you missed it, here she was "before"
this is actually a fairly flattering pic
because up close, it wasn't pretty!

I think she went from
girl-next-door
to
BOMBSHELL

Candidate...

These are the candidates for pinkness...
The Empress dresser above...
(maybe with an ornate mirror above?)

Or the Secretary on the right...

I think either would look great
both have simple lines
with lots of curves
and not too many
details to distract from
the shape and color...

Which would you select?

Shocking.

I've been toying with painting something
Shocking Pink
for a few months...

I'm usually drawn to neutral colors
that are calm and soothing

then...I saw this.
It's incredible.
Gorgeous.
Inspirational.
Hot pink can quickly
veer into
teenage girl territory..

I want a piece that would fit
in a room like this...
Sophisticated, saturated color...

Stay tuned...
