Henredon makes my heart beat faster

Henredon...vintage Henredon

how you make my heart SING!

Especially when it's FRENCH PROVINCIAL Henredon

so hard to come by...I've only had one other

(and let's face it, we've has a LOT of pieces pass through our hands!)

This was an estate purchase...

we found an old pay stub inside from Bausch and Lomb, circa 1972.

Net for the week?  $288. 

I gather that was a fair sum in 1972, as Henredon isn't inexpensive!

But enough yapping from me...check out this loveliness

 I adore this style...the taller, more tapered legs are very elegant

and remind me of Drexel's Touraine line

(but this has prettier hardware!)

 Lately, we've only been finding single nightstands

so we were thrilled this had a pair

 Full/Queen headboard w nice carved details to mimic the mirror

Cane is PERFECT

And can you believe they had the tallboy, too?

You KNOW I did a little happy dance when no one was looking!

We are picking up another dresser, nightstand, mirror, and two tallboys tonight...

much to Kenny's surprise because after unloading all this, I received the following text:

"We are officially FULL UP. No more furniture until the shipper comes"

Surely we can fit in a FEW more pieces, right??  

Peacock Blue Dresser

 Finally found a few moments to finish this dresser

 It's done with Milk Paint

 We custom mixed this gorgeous, vibrant Peacock Blue

 I consider this moderately distressed

although perhaps you'll disagree?

Really aren't any charts to go by, you know?

 Inside, a fun little surprise

Decoupaged drawer faces

in a lovely flora and fauna pattern

against vintage writing

Worth the Effort...

This pair of end tables...
we call them The Twins...
Good Grief did they give me trouble!

They had another paint job
prior to settling on this one..
it was "OK' but I didn't love it
and I need to love it
in order to sell it

We opted for Old Ochre
(one of my favorite ASCP colors)
Simple, old-world, and elegant
with a dark glaze
to highlight each paint stroke
curve, and imperfection

Pretty French original hardware

We sanded the top back down to raw wood
and decided to stencil the top
with a lovely French Poem

Let's just say I had "issues" with the stenciling...
stenciling over a painted surface is so easy...

if you have a little bit of bleeding, you can touch it up

Stenciling on wood means

you can't easily touch up your errors

It took three tries

but so worth it!

We painted the inside of the drawers
in ASCP
Duck Egg Blue
(they were clean, but we thought a shot of color would be nice!)

I'm REALLY happy with the outcome
and was already scheming on where to put these
in my living room...

I know I can't keep everything,
so hopefully these will sell quickly
and won't end up flanking my sofa...
(We need to paint things that DON'T match our house!)

Charmed, I'm sure...

I scored these amazing chairs
and had a very hard time
not keeping them...

but my friend and client, Becky
had specifically asked
for chairs
just
like
these

caned back
hand carved
French
curvy
gorgeous
(only two shown, there are four)

We painted them in a creamy white
then moderately distressed them
before waxing
(clear only)

We recovered the seats in a lovely
natural linen
with a slightly
darker gimp

Little bits of aqua
peek out beneath the white

We paired them with the
loveliest round table

The legs were painted in a custom
blended aqua chalk paint
and the top was stripped
and refinished

I think...
this is my favorite dining set
to date!

Returning to my first Love...

It's no secret
Paris Grey is my favorite
ASCP color...

Don't get me wrong...
I pretty much love them all...
But Paris Grey, to me, is perfection

It's not too blue
nor too yellow
not too dark
nor too light

It looks great on just about every piece
and works with
or without
dark wax

This dresser had great curves
and a tired wood finish

The heavy distressing keeps it
from being too precious

I didn't dark wax this piece
I kind of like the crispness
countered with the distressing

I could see this
as a buffet
or
in an entryway
even in a nursery...

The more we "master"
using wax
the happier I am
to have taken the plunge to use it
I know it's not for everyone
but for us, there is nothing that compares
