Help Requested! Brainstorm Blog 2

Ariel needs some suggestions!

"This is a picture of an end table I bought about a year ago. I loved it's shape but it was painted a terrible Crayon Green color. I went and picked out an olive-ish green color to paint over it and at first it didn't look too terrible. I SWEAR it has gotten lighter and lighter every day. It's now an awful lime green color that I gooped on (I had no idea what I was doing back then) and now I'm stuck with at least three layers of paint and no clue what to do with it. The rest of my living room is done in grays and robin's egg blue, with splashes of turquoise. All of the other furniture is distressed, so I have no idea what to do with this table so that it fits in, but doesn't have icky green showing through! Help!

Thank you, Ariel"

  1. buy a new table? hahaha, just kidding! Sand down the areas that bug you, and repaint it in a blue to match your home. Or you could paint it grey then do a wash or dry-brush of blue over the grey. Either would be lovely.

  2. This is a great piece! Maybe keep the current color, and stencil or paint with antique white??? You never know you might like the green once you add something else to it. ;)

  3. Try a coat of stain over it--it will darken the color and may be the answer. I do this when a color turns out too light or too bright and makes such a bigt change. Then sand edges to show wear and tear. It is a cute little table so I would give it a try...

    1. I agree w/Sandy A...try putting a stain or glaze over it..I think that would be pretty!

  4. Paint over the green in most areas except selected edging details of the piece (in the legs, around the rims/edges on the horizontal areas-tops, parts of the dowels etc.) with either Old White or Paris Grey. Add a small bit of blue, turquoise or teal to the piece in details such as an area of the dowels. Wax with clear and then dark wax, and distress! The dark wax will help to darken the green. The bits of green will pop and add interest to the piece!
Have fun, can't wait to see what you finally decide to do.

  5. Thanks for the suggestions!!! I am buying a palm sander this weekend, and going to try to put dark wax over the green first! If that doesn't work, I'll sand away and start over! I really love the paris grey and turquoise suggestion! I'll post a picture when it's finished :)
